Cheap airfare to Italy is mostly about timing and flexibility. Compare fares across airlines and nearby airports, shift your dates a few days either way, and book when the price looks right.
ITA Airways is Italy's national carrier, and major US airlines and European alliance carriers also serve Rome, Milan and, in some seasons, Venice.
Fares to Italy are usually lower from November to March (outside Christmas and Easter). Late spring and early autumn can offer a good balance of price and weather, while summer is the busiest season.
Rome Fiumicino (FCO) has the most long-haul flights. Milan Malpensa (MXP) is good for northern Italy, and Venice (VCE) has some seasonal transatlantic service.
Winter, outside the holidays, is often cheapest. Spring and autumn shoulder seasons can also offer better fares than summer.
